Courses

There are many straight Gender Studies master’s programs out there that involve studying gender studies on its own, but don’t limit yourself to these courses only! At least not initially, because there are so many courses that could lead you directly and easily into a humanitarian career. Let’s take a look at a few.

The M.A. in Gender Studies and Law at SOAS, University of London, UK, aims to refocus issues prioritized in western Gender Studies and Legal Theory on the complex specifics of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East. This program offers specialized study of gender and law in relation to the cultures of the countries within these continents, as well as rigorous training in and the analysis of contemporary gender theory.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Gender Mainstreaming Policy and Analysis at Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia, aims to provide you with a comprehensive knowledge of gender mainstreaming and gender analysis. It’s a one-year, full-time course that allows you to focus on a specific policy area, such as public health, education, economic management or human resources.

M.A. in Gender and International Relations is held at the University of Bristol, UK. During the course, you’ll examine perspectives from feminism, gender studies, cultural studies and sexuality studies, in conjunction with inter-disciplinary research into international political economy, civil-military relations, men and masculinity, and international development. This is a one-year, full-time or two-year, part-time course.

The M.A. in Gender and Development held at the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK, provides a thorough grounding in policy and planning skills, and gives you an in-depth knowledge and capacity for gender analysis within the areas of reproductive health, rights, identity, environment and social protection, as well as the tools needed to participate effectively in gender and development-related policy-making, implementation and research. You can study for the master’s for one year, full time, or go for the two-year, part-time program.

The M.A. in Gender Without Borders is also held within the United Kingdom, at Kingston University, London. It’s an interdisciplinary course taught across three core subjects: English, philosophy and sociology, but you can take options in other disciplines in accordance with your interests. Its focus is not on women exclusively; it takes transgender seriously and involves reflection upon the inherent whiteness in race perspectives. It’s a one-year, full-time program.

If you’d like to study far afield and experience Egyptian gender issues first-hand, the American University in Cairo, Egypt, runs a M.A. in Gender and Women’s Studies in the Middle East/North Africa. The course equips you with theoretical and methodological strengths and offers advanced study in three tracks: Geographies of Gender and Justice; Gendered Political Economies; and Gender and Women’s Studies in the Middle East/North Africa each with core and elective requirements and a thesis to complete at the end.

Why I am qualified to help you get admitted to a graduate program in Gender Studies

I completed my PHD in Religion and Social Ethics in 1995. One third of my qualification exam dealt with women's issues and feminist social theory. Thus, I feel that I am imminently qualified to assist you in drafting a spectacular statement in the area of gender studies. In addition to helping applicants to graduate school, I am dedicated to promoting feminist ethical perspectives on philosophy, moral and political life, and public policy.

In this way, I hope to contribute to increasing the visibility and influence of feminist ethics, as well as feminist social and political theory, and to provide support to emerging scholars from diverse and underrepresented populations. I also want to help further the development and clarification of new understandings of ethical and political concepts and concerns, especially as they arise out of feminist concerns.

Gender Studies & Ethics

My particular strengths lie in the areas of gender in literature and cultural studies;  gender, history, and anthropology; gender, colonialism, and postcolonialism; gender and globalization; feminism, justice, and ethics; gender and health; and gender and international studies. Most of my clients are applicants to Gender Studies MA Programs that give them the opportunity to design a course of study that incorporates gender or feminism-based, interdisciplinary methodologies, while at the same time developing expertise in an area of concentration.

Help With Your Personal Statement for Graduate School in Gender Studies, Masters, PHD.

We see women as key to development in underdeveloped countries!

Women are the key to the development challenge. Throughout the developing world, women are at a disadvantage at the household, community, and societal levels. Within the household, women have less access to and control over resources and limited influence over household decisions. Beyond the household, however, women have limited access to communal resources and they are under-represented in public decision-making bodies. They also have limited bargaining power in markets (such as the labor market), and often lack opportunities to improve their socioeconomic position.

Therefore, efforts to reduce gender inequality are required on multiple fronts. Over the last several decades a number of strategies have emerged and evolved to promote gender equity in development efforts. We want very much to help you with your Personal Statement of Purpose so that we can have the honor of sharing with you in the promotion of gender equity and the development of effective strategies for the way forward.
