I am a dentist from Iran who now is becoming very comfortable here in California with my family. I have had the XXXX School of
Dentistry selected as my first choice for graduate studies that will ultimately prepare me to practice dentistry here in America.
Since immigrating to America a few years ago, I have kept myself busy doing things that enhance my professional preparation, such as
obtaining First Aid, CPR Aid, Infant and Child CPR, and Dental Assistant License in 2006. English has been a challenge for me,
especially since I am not all that young anymore at 37. But, as you say here, “necessity is the mother of invention.” I have been fully
immersed in the arduous task of perfecting my English ever since I arrived, before that actually. And for the past two years, my English
classes at XXX College have been central to my highest priorities—along with studying for the NBDA.
The two obligatory years that I spent in the Iranian Army (1997-1999) provided me with an opportunity to learn a lot of valuable things
about life in general, society, the psychology of groups, technology, and global politics. I remain deeply disturbed by the politics of the
Middle East of which my native country plays such a central role. I love California and would feel so very privileged to make my home
here. But if the Middle East, especially Iran, should go through a period of social disintegration, mismanagement, corruption, and the
people had little to no access to dental care, I might thing about returning. After being released from the military, I practiced general
dentistry in a private office for six years, 1997-2003: non-surgical extraction, surgical extraction, clinical crown lengthening, general
surgery, fixed/removable prosthodontics, endodontics, anterior and posterior composites, amalgam restoration, dental cleaning, and
radiographies.
I am presently employed with the Present XXXX Dental Group, where I have been for nearly two years, here in Los Angeles, CA. I
manage appoints and treatment schedules in rural areas helping to bring dental care to those under-treated segments of our population.
What I most love about this experience, in addition to helping people in desperate need of dental care, is the opportunity that it has
afforded me to develop my team working skills, and we have a very effective team. We are like a team of brothers and sisters who so
very much love what we do. This experience has also inspired me to go to graduate school here in the United States so that I can
become a practicing dentist here in America. I feel strongly that the XXXX School of Dentistry is the perfect place for me as a result of
its advanced standing in the area of prosthodontics. My ultimate dream would be to someday go back to Iran and teach in a dental
school at a major university at the same time that I could devote myself to fulltime research addressing the dental needs of the Iranian
people. I am an enormously hard working person who is ultimately devoted to his profession. I am also a highly compassionate man
who people find it easy to related to, a good listener, and I want to thank you for considering my application to your program. I am also
