I am writing to apply for graduate study towards the Master of Architecture and Urban
Design Program at XXXX University since I feel strongly that my educational background
and work experience make me a strong candidate for admission to your program. A Korean-
American man with a global mentality and a passion for art coming to life through
architecture, I have helped to prepare myself for a Master’s Program by spending last
summer (2006) in Australia attending the XXXX Studio Program for selected young
international architects. Now, I wish to continue my education in architecture and urban
design at XXXX, where I hope to have the opportunity to build upon what I have learned in
Australia and to learn how to think in ever more sophisticated and creative ways about how
to improve urban, architectural designs, especially in sustainable and socially responsible
ways. I have a special interest in three cities, New York, my current home, Seattle, where I
lived for a couple of years after coming to the U.S., and Seoul, where I lived until the age
of 14.  I am a man who has long been dedicated to the goal of contributing to my
community, giving something back to society. As an undergraduate student, I was actively
involved with various student organizations. And now, I am an active participant in the
group Architecture for Humanity.

In addition to completing my Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at the XXXX Institute in
Brooklyn in May of 2003, I also had the privilege of serving as a Teaching Assistant for the
fall semester prior to my graduation the following spring. I tutored students in a class
entitled "Architecture Media" and was part of the panel that graded the students on their
final project presentations. A special highlight of my undergraduate years was the
opportunity to study in Rome for one semester in the spring of 2000. There, in addition to
architecture and urban design, I also studied and absorbed Italian culture, history, and arts.
My first undergraduate degree was from XXXX College in North Carolina where I graduated with a major in
psychology. I see my background in social psychology as an excellent foundation for my subsequent
professional studies in architecture and urban design, since urban architecture is ultimately a reflection of how
the human mind works, especially in a collective sense, as we struggle to achieve social harmony, searching for
a balance between our pragmatic desires for efficiency and our aesthetic drive for beauty.

I also participated in the XXXX’s Career Discovery Program in the summer of 1997. My favorite spot was
XXXX Library where I spent countless hours learning, reflecting, and truly discovering who I was and what I
most wanted to do with my life. It was at this point that my interests in social psychology became firmly wed to
my interests in urban design. Now, I see urban design as a direct reflection of social psychology and I explore
the human mind through the great architectural achievements that surround me in Manhattan, reflecting on the
differences between New York, Rome, Seattle, the European cities that I visited, and Seoul, in terms of the
social patterns and conditions that are responsible for these cities developing in the ways that they have. I am
fascinated by the politics and history of urban design and especially concerned with these profound questions in
light of issues of human rights and dignity.

Especially since studying at XXXX, sustainability is the concept that is most central to my professional
intellectuality. I long to see a world that is better designed in terms of harmony with nature, the environment, and
takes into consideration the housing needs of those among us who are in greatest need of assistance. I look
forward to a long and productive professional life laboring to contribute to the realization of these noble and life
preserving goals. I struggle constantly to develop an ever more critical eye and mind concerning architecture, its
origins, and the driving social forces that account for the way that it moves in certain directions. I see
architecture and urban design as practical forms of fine art in an ongoing processes of discovery. Through my
examination of architecture, I learn who I am and how my location in society is reflected in the way that I see,
think, and feel about my physical environment

Last September (2006), I attended a conference at the United Nations on sustainable urban design. The
discussions that took place at this conference impressed upon me even further the way in which questions of
human rights, justice, and even the survival of our species depend upon creative urban design. I constantly draw
upon the wealth of my observations: in Italy for example, traveling through numerous cities and towns, Paris,
where I came to have an even deeper appreciation for the arts, and Korea, my heritage. My vast love for
architecture is accompanied by a complimentary love for photography, and music as well. During my school
years at XXXX, I became acquainted with numerous classical musicians and worked as a staff photographer for
the XXXX Sinfonietta. Both music and photography have enriched the way I look at architecture and the critical
vision that I have for urban design.

I am currently employed with XXXX & Partners, working with major developers both in New York and abroad.
I am one of the key designers and leaders of the company’s research efforts and have helped to make a new
design studio a great success, growing from 22 to 120 employees over the last two years. One of only two
Korean-speaking members of the company, I have been especially helpful for our labors on behalf of XXXX. I
feel that this experience has also helped to prepare me for making the maximum contribution possible as a
graduate student at XXXX University.

Why Our Prices are So Reasonable Compared to Our Competition.
Helping people with their Personal Statement or Statement of Purpose (different phrases for the same thing) is big business on the Internet.
No one really knows for sure since it is not regulated in any way; but it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of students seek help each
year with their Statement. This is because advanced study is so central to what they want for their future, and the future of their children. A
well written Statement often results in scholarship awards of tens of thousands of dollars—in other words, it is generally a good investment
for both the long and short term, a win/win situation. As a result, there are now hundreds of services providing Personal Statement of Purpose
assistance on the Internet and all have invested huge amounts of resources in an attempt to become competitive and stay that way.
